There are may features to know when buying a tarp cover: thickness, eyelet, UV stability, Flame retardant

There are hundreds of tarp cover you can find in the market. And you are not sure which tarp can meet your expectation. If you plan to go camping for a day, do you need heavy duty tarp and big size? If you want to cover your woodpile, is light duty blue tarp suitable. There are many features we should consider to choose the right tarp

Thickness

When buying a tarp cover, we should decide how thick we want for the tarp. Thickness can vary from 5Mil to 20 Mil. It is commonly called light duty, medium duty and heavy duty tarp.

Light duty tarp can works for one time use purpose, floor covering, cleaning or 1-3 months life expectation

Heavy duty to extra heavy duty are idela for super tough jobs such as truck cover, scaffolding sheet in construction site, or to cover object with life expection more than 1 year

Size

Tarp size are available from small size 5x7ft or 2x3m to large size that go all the way to 170x170ft  or 30x50m.

Covering small things or daily cleaning may only need small size tarp, while super size 170x170ft will cover your sport base.

You need to ditermine what to cover first and its dimension first to decide how big of tarp you will need to buy. Normally the tarp should be at least 1ft bigger than the object which it will cover.

UV stability

UV stability prevents degradation from sun exposure.

This substance is often seen in medium duty and heavy duty. With less than 3 month life duration, almost no customer is willing to pay more money for short term using.

If you are looking for a tarps to block from harmful UV rays or you leave in high radiation areas, UV stability is always recommended.  UV protection is a great choice for canopies, gardening and agriculture cover.

Flame retardant

Fire retardant tarps or FR tarps are often used for events for applicationtion where the risk of fire is present. FR tarps lessen the flammability of items

Accessories and fabrication

Eyelet: type of eyelet (alumn, plastic or brass eyelet) and space interval will combine and affect tarp’s price.

Plastic corner bar: this is often used for medium and heavy duty tarp for reinforcement.

Other accessories such as D-ring or nilon rop, or logo printing will also increase the cost.

Color

In general, price of a tarp will not change because of color. Only transparent tarps and Leno tarps might have higher price due to its lower productivity.

There is also no industry regulation for color code. However each market have its own common color that easier for customer to find in the market.
